What's in the course?
This workshop teaches you the core principles of forming and shaping a safe and effective Step Aerobics class. Master class and choreography handouts are provided along with a workshop manual. You will learn all the basic Step moves, plus how to incorporate impact, direction, step approach, style, arm lines, linking and combining moves, and the use of music. This will enable you to create many different step routines for your own classes.
This course is a component of the Studio Professional Diploma, but can also be taken separately.
Course content includes:
- Health and safety guidelines
- The theory behind the benefits of Step Training
- Kinesiology, physiological, biomechanical implications and considerations of Step Training
- Basic Step choreography; instructions, teaching points and adaptations for each move and sequence
- Class formatting and how to structure a beginner level class
- How to build and develop choreography from base moves using choreographic variations and appropriate learning curves to suit all levels
- Teaching skills; effective verbal and visual cueing, class communication/interaction, instruction and performance techniques
