Pre & Post Natal Course

Qualification

Students are awarded the Active IQ Level 3 Award in Designing Pre and Post Natal Exercise Programmes after completion of the online course and assessments.

You'll also receive 20 REPs CPD points and progression to further specialist qualifications at Level 3 and 4

Entry requirements

Applicants require a minimum Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing or one of the following: Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing or Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training or equivalent.

Assessment

The course assessment consists of a theoretical case study and a short answer worksheet.

Type of Study

8-10 hours of on-line study over a period of 7 weeks.

What's in the Pre and Post Natal Exercise course?

An increasing number of women are choosing to exercise throughout their pregnancy. It is highly likely you will encounter a client who is either pregnant or has recently given birth.

The course covers :

The course is split into two parts, pre-natal exercise and post natal exercise. Each of these units are divided into units and lessons.

  • The need for referral
  • Contraindications to exercise
  • Warning signs to stop exercising
  • Activities to be avoided during pregnancy

  • Nutrition during pregnancy
  • Guidelines for cardiovascular exercise, strength training, flexibility and core training
  • Example exercise programmes for each trimester of pregnancy
  • The benefits, risks and contraindications to post natal exercise
  • Post-natal complications and their implications for exercise
  • Preparing post natal clients for exercise
  • Caesarean section and its implication for exercise
  • Nutritional needs for breast feeding and exercise
  • Guidelines for post-natal cardiovascular exercise, strength training, flexibility and core training
  • Example post-natal training programme
