Certificate in Body Massage

This course is designed to train students to a professionally competent level in order to carry out a comprehensive range of Swedish massage techniques. Insurance to practise can be obtained after completion of the course. Students will also be awarded the VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage.

Course Content

Stage 1 Anatomy and Physiology

• Modules 1-9 Anatomy and Physiology for therapists

Stage 2 Body Massage

• Module 10 History, therapeutic benefits and effects of massage
• Module 11 Contraindications
• Module 12 Health and safety
• Module 13 Professionalism and ethics
• Module 14 Client care and preparations for massage
• Module 15 Swedish massage techniques (a video/DVD demonstrating these techniques will be provided for this module and there will be one day of training to support this at either London or Trowbridge)
• Module 16 Case studies
• Module 17 Business aspects and marketing

Length and Format of Course

14 months (based on 10-12 hours study per week). Distance learning with 1 day of training.

Assessment

• Continuous coursework assessment
• One 90 minute theory exam
• One 60 minute practical exam to be held in London or Trowbridge
• One 90 minute VTCT exam

Next Steps

Students successfully completing this course may wish to continue to develop their knowledge through Premiers range of online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses. Alternatively, the Diploma in Stress Management is an ideal complement to the Body Massage course.
