| Professional Reference The last month has been sensational in a number of ways. I had been doing personal training on and off for the last ten years with mixed results. I’ve complex mental health difficulties, diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, chronic pain and 175kg, so as you can imagine finding a good personal trainer to work with has not been easy. I am fussy and working with the Mental Health Research Network at Imperial College, London, as a freelance mental health trainer and coming from an NHS management background I have very high standards. I had taken a year off from personal training and had gained back the 4 stone I had previously lost. My consultant diabetologist at the Royal Free Hospital warned me that if I didn’t change- the nerve damage in my feet would get worse. I found Rob via the NRPT website. I must have gone through about 200 profiles. I knew immediately after looking at the Benefit website that it was Rob I would like to work with. I must admit to feeling really nervous about meeting him. I live a very unconventional life and wondered what he would make of me. However he was very warm and focussed as well as firm but fair. He was honest and welcoming to working with me. Rob has been working with me for over a month now and I feel better than ever. In clinical work we talk about the evidence based approach as gold standard. Rob’s scientific approach combined with his generous support and superb gift of humour all rolled in to a session is what is proving to be the cornerstone of change for me. My diet, lifestyle and exercise programme is in process of being revamped and I celebrated my 40th birthday-feeling more positive than I have for a long, long time. Fenella Lemonsky October 2007 Rob has been working with me since September 2006. He got to know how I liked training very quickly and planned out sessions that were hard work but gave me a great sense of achievement. We regularly run for half the session now, something that even a few months ago seemed impossible. Rob never lets me get away with quitting, encouraging me to do my best and exercise in a way that I just couldn’t do on my own. He varies the sessions, explains what the exercises are doing but most importantly always makes sure that I enjoy the session. My fitness has now vastly improved and am now far more confident with exercising between our sessions and living a more healthier lifestyle. Damian Belson | |||||||
