Fitness testing is an integral part of any professional physical training programme. However FTG keeps fitness testing fun, manageable and specific to individual client needs. Daniel Murphy, Robert Half International, Recruitment Manager I started training with Lisa in July 2008 – here’s some background to my journey. When I started to research personal trainers I had decided I really needed to get fitter – I wasn’t doing any exercise and definitely felt I needed to tone up, as I was 37 I felt things would only get worse if I didn’t make some changes. I was already pretty careful with my diet so I decided exercise was the only option. I have a demanding job and often work 14 hours+ a day and felt I needed a structure that I could stick to but also felt I needed the exercise to get more of a balance in my life. I didn’t feel comfortable with joining a gym so finding a trainer was a much better option for me. I felt really comfortable with Lisa straight away – she certainly not intimidating or too pushy but she managed to motivate and encourage me work hard. For the first month I trained with Lisa once a week and then trained by myself once or twice a week but the more I got the hang of the exercises the greater the drive became to do more – I actually started to enjoy doing it. Lisa also managed to adapt her plans so I could still workout in my hotel room when I worked away 2/3 times a month. From there I started to combine the exercise with swimming – starting at 30 lengths then building on this. I really liked the fact I had a different plan from Lisa each week so I’ve never had the chance to get bored and my body was constantly being challenged. After about 12 weeks people really started to comment and asking me if I’d lost weight – I hadn’t told anyone except for my husband so it wasn’t as if they new I was training. By the time it came to early December less than 5 months later I had dropped from a size 14 to a size 10 and I felt amazing. I went abroad for Christmas and felt so much more comfortable in my clothes, I’ve always loved fashion but my new shape made me try styles I never would have dared to wear before – I’m not talking about showing a lot of flesh - I didn’t need to. I was just able to have a bit more fun with clothes. In the New Year I asked Lisa how I could keep challenging myself so we started to add running as well as training, this was so hard but Lisa really helped me to keep going. At first I couldn’t run to the end of the street without stopping but eventually something clicked and I was able to go much further. In May I ran my first 10K and I managed to complete it in an hour. I’ve since run 2 more 10K’s and in my last race I managed a personal best of 50 minutes. I’ve now enrolled for the Leeds half marathon in May 2010, I can’t believe I’m going to do this just before I’m 40 – I know it will be hard but it puts a smile on my face to know I’ll be able to do this. I cannot thank Lisa enough – to say she has changed my life is an understatement, not only has it changed my figure and my health but my energy levels are through the roof even my boss says he can’t keep up with me these days.
