Canadian Home Fitness Test

The Canadian Home Fitness Test was developed in the early 1980s to give people an easy way to test their general aerobic fitness. Keep records and you can chart your progress each week.

What's The Point?

If you want to make a simple assessment of your fitness in the comfort of your own home, the Canadian Home Fitness Test may be for you.

Using a step and a CD, it allows you to measure your general aerobic fitness, a key factor in health for the general public.

What Do You Need?

  • A step of approximately 8 inches, (20 cm)

  • A CD of the test protocol

  • A stopwatch

How Do You Do The Test?

  • Warm up first with three minutes easy stepping

  • Following the instructions and rhythm of the CD, step up and down on the appropriate height step.

What Results You'll See

Once you have completed the test, your results will allow you to assess you general fitness level based upon the number of test stages you completed, and your pulse rate 5 - 15 seconds after the end of the test.

By completing the test at regular intervals, you can measure the progress of your fitness training.

What's Being Measured Again?

This test measures general aerobic conditioning.
