Typical duties will include conducting fitness assessments, consultations and inductions with new clients. You will explain and demonstrate routines for clients, show them how to use exercise machines and free weights properly, and then supervise them while they work out.
Other duties will vary according to where you work. In smaller centres you will also be expected to carry out routine duties, such as working at reception, and carrying out routine cleaning and health and safety checks.
Depending on your level of training and qualifications, you might also lead group classes such as circuit training, aerobics or spinning, design individual exercise programmes, or provide clients with advice on diet and lifestyle choices.
To work in this popular field you will need appropriate training and qualifications. A nationally recognised qualification is essential - the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing is the recognised industry standard.
