Course Content
- Introduction to personal training
- Advanced anatomy and physiology
- Advanced client assessment methods (static and dynamic posture)
- Health and fitness appraisal, lifestyle analysis and stress management
- Joint assessments, muscle balance and postural correction
- Advanced flexibility methods
- Effective communication, developing motivational strategies and working with other professionals
- Nutritional advice for physical activity including pre/post exercise nutrition, weight management, the glycaemic index and free radicals
- Special populations including obesity, diabetes, asthma and orthopaedic conditions
- Fitness testing for power, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility
- Core training, periodisation and programme design for strength, power, hypertrophy and aerobic fitness
- Business skills
- Personal training outside the gym
Entry Requirements
Certificate in Gym Instruction or a suitable Level 2 qualification in gym instructing. A reasonable level of fitness is required as physical participation is essential. It is recommended you attain a CPR certificate to practise as a personal trainer but you do not need one to take this course.
Length and Format of Course
- Full-time: 7 weeks face to face study, supported by home work and online learning_ Part-time (blended learning): online learning and face to face study over approximately 6 to 8 months dependent upon the venue, supported by homework
